The world of social networking on the Internet has its own language and features, but they are not hard to get to know and understand. The friend finding such site is a typical example. Usage of the site is free but requires a registration so that trouble-makers can be excluded and make everyone safe from unkind users. New joiners take on a pseudonym to ensure privacy and they are also advised not to reveal too much about their precise location or other identifying details until they feel safe to reveal this in their private exchanges.

Initially, people make friends either by writing emails via their private website mailboxes or through the forum, chat room or Internet

messenger system. A forum is a form of message board divided into subject areas. These areas have threads and the threads consist of

posts.. In a chatroom live "conversations" take place in the form of written lines like a spontaneous exchange of telex messages. The pace can be fast and the conversations disjointed with some responding to others several lines ago whilst others may have picked up different thoughts and discuss that. The atmosphere and subject in the chatroom changes often if new people enter "the room" and some phrases have become well-known acronyms. The most used and abuses is LOL, laugh out loud, which is mainly an acknowledgement that something is mildly amusing, or ROFL, as in rolling on the floor laughing, for somewhat more entertaining situations. People take a little break with brb, be right back, but if they claim to need to answer the phone, beware, they may be

elegantly withdrawing because the crowd in the chatroom is too boring for them!

The presence of moderators is a good sign, as unmoderated community sites quickly descend into verbal mudslinging competitions. There are frequent wails about moderators’ judgement, similar to the footy supporters protesting against the referee’s decisions, but in truth everyone knows that there would be no fair game without the facilitator.

FishingForAFriend dot com is now a true friends network where one can learn how to make friends and accompany your friends online in the UK.
